This project successfully received planning approval via Mid Ulster District Council in October 2025.

Heron Energy is excited to propose the development of a 34MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) combined with an Electric Vehicle (EV) Service Station, designed to advance sustainable energy infrastructure in Northern Ireland.

Location:
The project is strategically located immediately west of Creagh Roundabout and approximately 150 meters east of 38-40 Hillhead Road, Toomebridge, Antrim (BT41 3SF).

Project Features:

  • Battery Energy Storage Facility (BESS): Supporting renewable energy storage and enhancing grid stability.
  • EV Service Station: Equipped with cutting-edge electrical infrastructure to support the growing demand for electric vehicle charging.
  • Amenity Pods: Providing essential facilities for users of the EV station.
  • Solar Panels: Integrated renewable energy generation to complement battery storage.
  • Parking and Access: Includes new access points, pavement alignment, and dedicated parking spaces for seamless functionality.
  • Security Measures: Installation of boundary fencing, lighting columns, and CCTV to ensure site safety and security.
