Project Redline

Why is this project important?
Northern Ireland has a legal obligation to ensure 80% of all electricity generated by 2030 is sourced from renewables. Achieving this target is crucial not only for addressing the climate crisis but also for enhancing our energy security through increased reliance on local energy sources. Building out more renewable assets like solar farms and wind turbines is incredibly important but maximising existing assets will also play a fundamental role in helping achieve these targets. BESS systems can help ensure the existing solar and wind generation is being fully utilised. Battery storage systems are essential in allowing us to maximise use of the renewable energy we generate. They will play an increasingly pivotal role between green energy supplies and responding to electricity demands. BESS are devices that enable energy from renewables, like solar and wind, to be stored and then released when the power is needed most.
Site Location
The site is located on lands approximately 250m southwest of 99 Dublin Road, Antrim, BT41 4PN. It is located within the rural area on lands between Belfast International Airport and south of Antrim town, and west of Dublin Road, and in close proximity to the shores of Lough Neagh. Access to the site is from Dublin Road and via an existing laneway through a farm complex at no.99 Dublin Road. There is currently an existing solar farm approved and under construction c.500m south of the proposed site. This new site will connect to the existing onsite substation, shared with the already-approved solar farm, and from there, it will feed into the Antrim Main Substation.
